Stewardship and Design from Open Corner Architecture

December 2, 2024

Michael Merschat is a member of our ming + ming community, and an amazing architect and designer who keeps the needs of Earth in mind in all of his designs. He’s helping to rebuild the Asheville NC area after the destruction of Hurricane Helene, and offers design consulting for those who live in other states. If you love to build green and need some sage wisdom and expertise, Michael is the architect to call.

Here’s a little bit more about Open Corner Architecture:

ABOUT US

We are visionaries.

Our designs weave together the story of your land, your home, and your heart.

Our work is thoughtful, intentional, and built to last.

Our purpose is to leave this world a better place than we received it.

Michael Merschat, AIA, Principal ArchitecT

Michael grew up on a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside Asheville, NC. After graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design, he moved up to Washington, DC, to pursue his career in architecture.

After two decades of city life, Michael returned home and found renewed connection with the land and rural community of his youth.

He believes that we have an opportunity to bring thoughtful design principles into every home, effortlessly blending the natural flow of the land with modern architecture.

He currently serves as the Education Director for the Executive Committee of the Asheville Chapter of the AIA and as Chairperson  the Capitol Area CRAN (Custom Residential Architects Network).

Waylon + Lucy, Design Dogs

Waylon and Lucy are sweet Lab-Pit mixes and they love taking walks, sleeping in the office, and snoring through architecture design charrettes.

This brother and sister duo remind us everyday that no matter how busy we are, it's always a great time to take a break, get outside, and breathe in the miracle of another beautiful day.

Connect with Christine Saindon, LCSW

July 5, 2024

I’ve worked with Christine in many facets over the years and I’m excited to welcome her to the Wabi Sabi Wellness Resource page. She has helped me to heal and grow into the person I am today, and she spearheaded our Moon Meditation group during the pandemic, when a conscious time for calm was needed. Read a little bit of her story below.

I have worked as a therapist for over 20 years and my approach has been influenced by my experience with and study of trauma and it’s after effects.  I believe that most symptoms people experience can be traced back to a traumatic event.

Anxiety, depression, addictions including eating disorders, phobias, insomnia, anger issues, and social problems are often the result of trauma.

My focus is not to identify experiences as traumas but to provide treatment that helps the specific ways that these significant life events affect the mind and body.

I focus on developing a caring and collaborative relationship with my clients and on creating a safe space for them for their work in therapy.

I utilize a variety of traditional therapeutic techniques as well as newer evidence based approaches such as EMDR, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, cognitive, behavioral, and solution oriented solutions and a number of strategies derived from my training as a yoga instructor.

I also offer a form of energy healing, Divine Love Healing. It was developed by Ahlmeirah Ariel Hallaire, a former physician who now resides in France and teaches this and other forms of energy healing. Divine Love Healing removes energetic blocks to healing and facilitates personal growth and transformation over time. I was trained over the course of three years in all levels of Divine Love Healing and additional advanced processes as well.
